Friday Favorite: Binder Clip as Beer Stacker.

Pinterest pin and website link.

I love this binder clip idea to stack beer in the fridge without a) the bottles falling over and b) taking over the entire fridge with just beer storage.  I'll be doing this for our next party!
Verdict: SUCCESS!

Day 66: Copycat McDonald's Shamrock Shake (success).

Pinterest pin and website link.

I fully expected for this homemade concoction to fail, as I am an extremely loyal patron of McDonald's during the month of March only -- I go just for their Shamrock Shakes!  However, my whole family was pleasantly surprised and said that this tasted almost identical to the real thing; my husband even said these were better!

Ingredients:
3 cups vanilla ice cream
1 cup whole milk (I only had 1/2 & 1/2 and 2% -- so I mixed them!)
1/2 teaspoon pure peppermint extract
1/4 teaspoon green food color
Whipped cream (optional)
Green sprinkles (optional)
Directions:
Place ice cream, milk, peppermint extract and green food coloring in a blender.  Cover and blend until smooth.  Pour into glasses, and top with whipped cream and sprinkles, if wanted.  Serve immediately.
Verdict: SUCCESS!

Day 28: Sore Throat Remedy (fail).

Pinterest pin and website link.

I have woken up the last few days with a sore throat, and I have to admit that my first thought was excitement that I got to try out this pin.  This little project of mine might be getting a tad out of hand...
I had a difficult time gulping this down because the vinegar taste was pretty strong, but I did it!
Unfortunately, the drink didn't do anything for my sore throat, but instead gave me a stomach ache both mornings I tried it.  I should probably stick with Vitamin C and extra rest instead of some miracle drink...

Verdict: fail.

Day 16: Whipped Cream Cut-Out Shapes (fail).

Pinterest pin.  Website link no longer works.

I had such high hopes for this pin, but it did not pan out as projected.  My kids love hot chocolate, and I knew they would get super excited about fun shapes floating at the top of their mug.  One might argue that this didn't turn out quite right because a) I used light Cool Whip instead of the real deal and b) I didn't use a cookie sheet.  However, the pinned picture of the cut-out heart looks much thicker than the height of a cookie sheet, so I went with the glass Pyrex instead.
Set-up:
I found it much easier to spread the whipped cream after letting it soften for about five minutes.
It's difficult to see the shapes (my camera was having issues the last few days -- it was most definitely user error), but I could barely scrape the car and heart shapes from the pan, and although they looked kind of cute for a second while I snapped the picture, they almost immediately sunk and then disintegrated into a big blob.
Verdict: fail.

Day 6: Crock-Pot Pumpkin Spice Lattes (fail)

Pinterest pin and website link.

I know it's January and no longer pumpkin spice latte "season," but I've been having serious withdrawals!  I thought I'd try a Crock-Pot pumpkin spice latte "pin," but unfortunately, it did not pan out as expected.  Luckily, I halved the recipe, so I didn't have to pour as much down the drain!

Ingredients & Directions:
4 tablespoons pumpkin puree
2 tablespoons vanilla
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 cups strongly brewed coffee
3 cups milk
4 tablespoons sugar
Whipped cream (optional)

Combine and whisk all ingredients (minus the whipped cream) in a slow cooker and cook on high for 2 hours.  After pouring into cups, top with whipped cream (optional).
Verdict:
There wasn't much of a pumpkin taste to this drink -- and it was much too sugary for my liking. I'm still on the hunt for a Crock-Pot pumpkin spice latte, as it would be so nice to be able to make these at home!
